Transition Process Begins At New Orleans Mayor's Office

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is welcoming his successor to his office. Mayor-elect LaToya Cantrell just has to wait five months to move in.

In their first joint news conference since Saturday’s election, MayorLandrieucongratulatedLaToyaCantrell on her strong win.

Because of election schedule changes made in 2013, Cantrell won’t take over until May 7th next year.

“The public expects there to be no break in the delivery or the quality of services and a peaceful and efficient transference of power is essential to accomplishing that. So I am looking forward to a very smooth and professional transition of power," Landrieu said.

Evaluations will be done on city departments for the incoming administration.

Cantrell promised the public a role in a thorough transition process.

“No real quick moves here. We owe the public this time," she said.

Cantrell says her team is now building a website to answer constituents’ concerns.
