Strauss Theatre will present 'Big River' to open its 85th season.

Auditions are July 11th and 12th for the Strauss Theatre Center musical 'Big River.'  Auditions are open to local actors from age 7 to adult. Backstage workers, crew and costumers are also needed.

Strauss' Cathy Airhart Webb and John Russell explain the audition process.

The musical is an adaptation of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. 'Big River' is set in pre-Civil War Missouri and follows the hijinks of an escaped slave and homeless boy. The performance will feature bluegrass, gospel and country music with a live stage band.

The play will kick off the 85th season for the Strauss Theatre Center in Monroe.
