We asked local children to read their favorite Christmas books as part of the "Give the Joy of Learing" project.  The KEDM project hopes to improve reading test scores in area schools. KEDM worked with the United Way  Read, Learn, Succeed  schools. The schools underperformed  on the reading portion of standarized tests. This year, KEDM was able to provide more than 1,300 books to 2nd and 3rd graders in 13 schools.

According to The Children's Defense Fund, over 74% of public school fourth graders in Louisiana are unable to read at grade level.  This is an epidemic that we can cure.  By working together, we can effectively make a difference, putting books directly into the hands of those children who need them most.
