The Strauss Youth Academy is hosting the northeast Louisiana regional Poetry Out Loud competition on Feb. 13.

Poetry Our Loud is a nationwide competition sponsored by the Poetry Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The competition is open to any student in grades 9-12. Students will recite a piece of poetry, judged on delivery and acting ability.

The student who wins will move on to state finals for a chance to compete nationally.

Cathy Airhart Webb says students must select their poems from www.poetryoutloud.org in order to compete.

"They need to go to that website and select poems from there," says Webb, director of educational advancement in the arts. "They are poems from nationally recognized authors, both dead and alive."

The competition takes place at the Strauss Youth Academy for the Arts on Saturday, Feb. 13. The event is open to the community.
