Business consultant Johnny Fatheree is a candidate for the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education District 5.

Fatheree sees reading as a vital skill that children in Louisiana have difficulty performing at acceptable levels.  "I propose a statewide platform for reading.  The state should come up with the money to provide teachers the best resources to help our children," he said.

The Downsville resident opposes Common Core and all its elements.  He believes in more locally-controlled school districts.

Fatheree says he supports aggressive teacher training at all levels, but does not back current teacher evaluation guidelines.
