Monroe Police continue to investigate Friday night’s fatal shooting of former Richwood High starting quarterback Michael Sherman. Detectives say Sherman was gunned down after an argument involving two females. Richwood High Football Coach Marcus Yanez says Sherman was a great person to be around.
"He was also the energy of the team, the heartbeat of the team. He was a fun loving kid who's smile could light up any room."
Sherman was 18 years-old and graduated in May. No arrests have been made.
After learning of Sherman’s death, Yanez held a team meeting, with players, coaches, students, and the community. But he says less than an hour after that meeting two more of his former players were shot in a drive-by shooting.
Three teenagers were shot in Monroe and no arrests have been made. Yanez is joining other community leaders in calling for the violence to stop.
Yanez says, "This has been an ongoing situation here in Monroe. It just so happen this weekend it involved three of my kids."
The victims in the second shooting are Xavier Wright, age 18. He was hospitalized and is in stable condition. The second victim is a juvenile and cannot be identified. He was treated and released at the hospital.
