Yesterday, shortly before 4:00 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 139, just south of Naff Ave. This crash claimed the life of a Bastrop woman.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 82-year-old Shirley Goodman of Bastrop, was traveling north on LA Hwy 139. For reasons still under investigation, Goodman’s vehicle traveled across the southbound lane, struck a mailbox and continued through a fence before coming to rest.
Goodman, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
In 2019, Troop F has investigated 37 fatal crashes resulting in 42 deaths.
