Former Jail Technician Accused of Bringing Drugs for Inmate

A sheriff's office in Louisiana has arrested a newly hired employee for allegedly trying to sneak drugs to an inmate accused of murder and robbery.

News outlets report 22-year-old Tyler Materre was arrested Monday and charged with several offenses, including possession with intent to distribute marijuana and conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal institution.

Materre was hired by the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office in May and worked as a corrections-monitoring technician.

Investigators found a bag of tobacco and marijuana in Materre's vehicle. Authorities say the items were for 21-year-old Rolandus Campbell, who faces several charges, including two counts of first-degree murder.

A sheriff's office news release says that Materre was immediately terminated. It's unclear if he has a lawyer.
