SPECIAL SESSIONS? Both Louisiana and Texas legislatures are winding down to their final weeks but could a Special Session be in the works for both states? Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has threatened to force one if the Texas House of Representatives doesn't pass Patrick’s Senate priorities.
Governor John Bel Edwards of Louisiana expressed his frustrations at the lack of progress in the state house of representatives as tax reform bills have yet to be brought to the floor. Tax reform bills came up for full House consideration a couple of times but were returned to the calendar. Edwards mentioned that $1.3 billion in revenue will disappear from the state on July 1, 2018, which has been called the "fiscal cliff" that this legislative session was supposed to resolve. Edwards hinted that unless progress is made, he may call a Special Session before the next regular session sometime next year.
