The Cooley House was the home of Monroe steamboat captain G.B. Cooley. The one-of-a-kind home was a law office and eventually was owned by the City of Monroe. The home faced many years of neglect and disuse.
The Cooley House Foundation has been working hard to restore the home. The roof and floors have been restored and a matching grant has been made available by the National Park Service.
Cooley House Foundation Board President Brian Davis says they want the public to see the home before and after restoration. The group will offer free tours on Sunday, March 24 from 2-4 p.m. In conjunction with the tours, Layton Castle will also be offing tours of the 2nd floor of the castle on Sunday afternoon.
