New Music on the Bayou Festival is May 31 - June 2 in Ruston and Monroe. The concert series features both local and international composers.
New Music on the Bayou Summer Festival brings both local and international composers to Northeast Louisiana region to create a mutually beneficial experience. One of the goals of the festival is to inspire both NELA and the composers through music and the beauty of the bayou. "We think a festival like this is something people don't get to hear very often," says Dr. Mel Mobley, President of New Music on the Bayou and Head of the Music Theory & Composition Department at ULM. "It's something we think is very important in the artistic world."
Another important facet of the festival is the way it encourages audience and composer interaction. All rehearsals are open to the public, which gives the audience insight into the process of composing music and the meaning behind each piece. "These are the composers of today that will be in the history books tomorrow," says Dr. Mobley.
