The Northeast Louisiana Arts Council is hosting the fifth Public Art 101 Workshop this weekend at the Biedenharn Museum and Gardens.

The all-day session is designed to provide local artists of any discipline with the tools and necessary vocabulary to navigate the complex world of public art.

The workshop will be led by award-winning public artist and designer, Joel Breaux, who has been published in high-profile art magazines and exhibited in the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum with his piece, "Design Culture Now." Breaux draws from his experiences and expertise to offer guidance to those looking to make a career with their art in the public sector.

According to NELA Arts Council president and CEO, Barry Stevens, Breaux started out a local artist just like many others here. He says, "Artist, fabricator, and designer Joel Breaux is from South Louisiana, and has been able to do an extensive amount of public art around the state and in the country."

By the end of Breaux's session, those in attendance will have had the chance to make connections to other artists in the area, a better understanding of the public art process, and increase their chances at being selected for a public art commision.

The workshop is Saturday, February 1, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. and will be held in the Biedenharn's Education Building behind the Coke Museum. The registration fee is $35 with lunch included.
