Dorothy and her friends make the fabled journey to the land of Oz, as Strauss Youth Academy For The Arts presents The Wizard of Oz.

SYAA Executive Director Walter Allen says  the production is similar to the 1939 film.  "We've made a few additions, like the jitterbug dance scene.  The four main characters tire from dancing to the point where the witch's monkeys can take them to the castle."

Set design and costumes are a highlight of the upcoming production.  A circular set piece has been constructed to create the tornado scene.  "Dorothy and the witch have a more modern appearance in the show," says Allen.

Performances begin this weekend.  Information at: straussyouthacademyforthearts.com.
