Local Group Wins Tourism Office Of The Year

Monroe-West Monroe, LA– Discover Monroe-West Monroe was awarded the Southeast Tourism Society’s Tourism Office of the Year with a budget of more than $1 million at the annual STS Connections conference on September 29. 


This award honors an organization that sets examples of the best work in travel and tourism and shines a light for others in the industry to follow.


The West Monroe Police Department will give out COVID vaccines this Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Monroe-West Monroe, LA– Discover Monroe-West Monroe will host its first annual Monroe-West Monroe Pumpkin Decorating Contest during the month of October.


Participants are asked to decorate their pumpkin with a Monroe-West Monroe theme. They  are encouraged to highlight the great things about Ouachita Parish. They may paint, carve, or decorate their pumpkin.


ULM Moon Festival Marks End of Harvest Season

The University of Louisiana Monroe International Student Association presents the Mid-Autumn Harvest Moon Festival at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the Hangar.


Also known as the Moon Cake Festival, the ISA will celebrate with refreshments, creating personalized masks, and showing the movie “Over the Moon” (2020).

DeSiard Street Shelter Becomes "Renewal Center"

The DeSiard Street Shelter, which serves people in the area who are homeless, recently underwent a name change and is now known as The Renewal Center of Northeast Louisiana.

The Renewal Center operates from 722 Adams Street in Monroe (previously located on DeSiard Street).

Update: Christopher Muse has been found.


Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Investigators are attempting to locate a missing person.

Christopher Muse, (pictured left) age 20, was last seen at his Monroe residence on September 13, 2021. He is described as a Black Male, 6’-2” tall and weighing 135 lbs. At the time, he was wearing a black shirt and khaki pants with black Nike Slides shoes.

Anyone with any information as to the whereabouts of Christopher Muse is asked to contact the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office at 318-329-1200

Update: Arrest Made In Patrick's Cove Shooting

The investigation into the reported shooting on Patrick’s Cove yesterday afternoon has resulted in the arrest of a suspect.  Michael Richard Holder has been arrested on a warrant charging him with one count of 2nd Degree murder.  He is currently booked into OCC on the charge.


The victim in the homicide on Patrick’s Cove has been identified as Bradley Smith of Calhoun.
