Bayouval is a new music festival on the bayou at the University of Louisiana Monroe, combining the words "bayou" and "festival." The event on September 17 at Bayou Pointe Event Center raises funds for student scholarships in the School of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA).

Dr. Derle Long, director of VAPA, expressed his enthusiasm for new the festival, "The name 'Bayouval' being the combination of a festival on the bayou is just absolutely brilliant."

To celebrate the culture-created (unofficial) Star Wars Day – May the 4th Be with You, the Wind Ensemble of the University of Louisiana Monroe will perform a free concert on Tuesday, May 4. 


Louisiana Opera Presents "Don Pasquale"

The Louisiana Opera presents Don Pasquale as the opera of the summer at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. With two showings, June 7 at 7:30 p.m. and June 9 at 2 p.m., the Louisiana Opera invites the audience to laugh and enjoy Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti at the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall. This production will be performed in English and will feature Ron Ulen, Bray Wilkins, Claire Vangelisti, and Corey McKern. 

According to the director, Mark Ross Clark, this production is “like the Godfather, but funnier.”

University of Louisiana Monroe Fall Art Crawl is Thursday, November 1 from 5-7 p.m. The crawl features art from ULM students, faculty, and visiting artists.

According to Dr. Jeffrey Anderson, Assistant Director of the School of Humanities at ULM, the Fall Art Crawl gives ULM students and faculty an opportunity to show off their talents through paintings, sculptures, and other art forms. "I've seen some of the artwork ahead of time, and it's as always very impressive," says Dr. Anderson.

Opera Celebrates Mardi Gras Season

The Louisiana Opera is holding its fundraiser in true Mardi Gras style. The opera, Fledermaus, will be performed at the Ouachita Grand Plaza Ballroom on Friday, February 24th at 7:00 p.m. 

This Mardi Gras-themed event will include masks, cabarets, dinner, dessert, and surprises. The Louisiana Opera along with the University of Louisiana Monroe's Chorus, and guest singers from across the United States will be lending their voices to the production. 

Haitian Composer Featured At ULM Concert And Lecture

The University of Louisiana Monroe's Visual and Performing Arts program is hosting its lecture and concert for the Spring 2017 Composer- in - Residence this Tuesday, February 21st. The lecture will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Biedenharn Recital Hall. The concert will also be held in the Recital Hall from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Sydney Guillaume, the composer - in - residence for this semester, currently lives in Portland, Oregan, but is originally from the country of Haiti. His lecture will focus on the Haitian influences that are found his musical compositions.
