The University of Louisiana at Monroe is transitioning all classses online beginning Thursday, March 19. The move follows a cancellation of all face-to-face classes for Monday, March 16, through Wednesday, March 18.

How to best address the needs and improve the lives of the senior population of Northeast Louisiana resulted in a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Louisiana Monroe and Northeast Delta Human Services Authority signed on Aug. 21, 2019.

Northeast Delta HSA is a division of the Office of Behavioral Health of the Louisiana Department of Health. Its Operation Golden Years initiative focuses on serving citizens ages 60 and above with information, support and services.

University of Louisiana Monroe President Dr. Nick J. Bruno announces Scott McDonald as the new ULM Director of Athletics. McDonald joined the university in June 2018 as Chief Administrative Officer and soon took on the role of Interim Director of Athletics.

A press conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, June 14 on the seventh floor of the ULM Library.

The Monroe City Council will present newly elected Pro Football Hall of Famer Johnny Robinson with a proclamation at tonight’s 6 pm City Council meeting.

 

Robinson is a Monroe resident, and founder of the Johnny Robinson Boy’s Home.  He is also a former assistant football coach at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (then Northeast Louisiana University).

The City of Monroe, the University of Louisiana Monroe, and Grambling State University have been awarded a grants which will further the university’s dedication to being a good steward of the environment.

ULM received a $179,830 grant on Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, from Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell.

The grant will fund installation of high-efficiency LED lights in some ULM buildings.

“These improvements will lower electric bills by thousands of dollars,” Campbell said.

The United States Band of the West will be in Brown auditorium on ULM's campus at 7 PM, January 29. This is a family friendly band and a free event. Doors will open at 6 PM for all of the community. The United States Air Force presents "America the Beautiful" with patriotic music from 5 centuries.

What many don't know is that some jobs in the Air Force include playing an instrument along with other duties. Like other places, the Air Force requires an audition for the process. These people play at shows like this one and other important events.

The economic driver of many small communities is too often its university. A group of local businessmen came up with a progressive idea over coffee. The proposal is to build a better economic base for Ouachita Parish in hopes to better the quality of life, provide strong occupational assets, offer superb healthcare, and an educated work force.
