When it comes to water, New Orleans faces three threats: the sea, the sky and the river.

Tropical storms and hurricanes send storm surges pushing up against the city's outer defenses. That's what happened in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina's surge caused widespread levee failures and left 80% of the city under water.

A tropical wave in the Gulf of Mexico has many Louisianans worried. Invest 93L has a 80% chance of growing into a tropical depression or tropical storm in the next 5 days and an 80% chance in the next 48 hours.  The storm would be named Cindy if it develops.

Bayoustateweather.com meteorologist Don Wheeler says we need to keep an eye on this system.

“Should the storm continue on its present track it will be off the Louisiana coast Wednesday morning.”
