Tropical Weather Outlook NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 200 PM EDT Tue Sep 11 2018 For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico: The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane Florence, located over the west-central Atlantic Ocean, on Hurricane Helene, located over the eastern Atlantic, and on Tropical Storm Isaac, located several hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles.

Tropical Depression Gordon will shift north of the area today but decent rain chances will continue. Temperatures will be in the upper 80's with the threat for flash flooding remaining for upper portions of the ArkLaMiss Delta through the day today.

Harvey was downgraded overnight to Tropical Depression status but still  remains a dangerous storm for our area.  Flooding and tornadoes are the biggest risk for the waterlogged storm system.  

As of 5:30 am T.D. Harvey has maximum sustained winds of 35 M.P.H. and is moving to the northeast at 9 M.P.H.  The system is currently near Monroe, La and will continue into Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee later today. 

Mayor Jamie Mayo and the Monroe City Council join Public Works Director Tom Janway to announce we will begin our sandbagging operations at 9 am Wednesday, August 30 at four different locations across the city.

Senior citizens and those with disabilities can drive to the Public Works facility on Grammont Street, where employees will load bags for them.

ALL OTHERS can get sandbags at self-serve remote locations at Saul Adler, Marbles, or Emily P. Robinson Community Center. Shovels, sand and bags will be provided. 

More Guardsmen Activated, Equipment Ready For Harvey

NEW ORLEANS - The Louisiana National Guard, as directed by Governor John Bel Edwards, has activated approximately 210 Soldiers and Airmen in response to Hurricane Harvey, with an additional 230 full-time Guardsmen supporting efforts.

Last week, the LANG began prepositioning Guardsmen, high water vehicles and boats in south Louisiana parishes, to include Calcasieu, Vermillion, Orleans, and Lafayette.

The Office of State Parks is offering a 50% discount on all overnight accommodations at selected northern Louisiana State Parks, for southeast Texas and south Louisiana residents evacuating ahead of Hurricane Harvey.
