The University of Louisiana Monroe announced Tuesday, April 2, 2019, that it would provide healthcare screenings and education events to citizens in Union, Morehouse, Richland, East Carroll, West Carroll, Tensas, Madison and Bienville parishes for the next three years thanks to a $96,679 grant from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation.

A new $3 million operating room is ready to treat area hospital patients. On Wednesday, Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport - Monroe Medical Center cut the ribbon on a new Hybrid OR.  The new operating room is a workspace that combines imaging systems with a surgical table. 

Jonathan Pillips, COO of the Monroe Medical Center  says "By allowing clinicians to diagnose and treat in a single location, we can improve patient safety by reducing risk and delays". He says the new OR will lead to better patient outcomes and will increase efficiency. 

Management of the state-owned safety-net hospitals in north Louisiana could soon be changing hands.Southeast Louisiana-based Ochsner Health System has tentatively agreed to take over day-to-day oversight of the Shreveport and Monroe facilities from BRF.The move announced Tuesday by Gov. John Bel Edwards' administration is aimed at ending years of disputes over operations of the facilities.
