Summer Camp Season at ULM

The University of Louisiana at Monroe is prepping to start their non credit programs and camps for the summer! There are many camps being offered with topics ranging from music and arts all the way to athletics. The first camp of the summer begins on June 3rd and the last camp of the summer is on August 13th. There will be some age restrictions on specific camps, but the University has tried to incorporate camps for children of all ages. 


The Louisiana Office of Cultural Development, in concert with Baton Rouge Music Studios, and the National Endowment for the Arts, announces two workshops designed to provide veterans with the opportunity to learn the craft of songwriting. The Songs of Survivors workshops will be led by professional educators, songwriters, and touring musicians.


New Iona Celebrates Celtic Heritage In NELA

The New Iona Presbyterian Church is hosting a Celtic service 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.  Saturday, January 12. The service will be held at the church located on 1403 Wellerman Road. To help celebrate all things Scottish, Emerald Accent will be playing some familiar hymms you never knew came from Scotland. The history of New Iona will be remembered along with its community, featuring a celtic prayer.

Xavier University is presenting a free concert and discussion Sunday about the musical roots and styles that have made New Orleans an important musical and cultural center.

Xavier clarinetist and music historian Dr. Michael White will host the program, called "Tricentennial Soul: 300 Years Of Black Music In New Orleans." Performers will include White; blues, R&B, and rock musician Deacon John Moore; Opera Creole; and the Hot 8 Brass Band.

Bayou Jamb Rocks ULM Malone Stadium

Bayou Jamb is Friday, August 24 and Saturday, August 25 at ULM Malone Stadium. The event includes football games, activities, and community involvement. 

Bayou Jamb began as a way to raise money and give back to the community. The event centers around football, but features food, activities for kids, and live music as well. Bayou Jamb is the biggest high school sports event in Louisiana.

"Doug Duffey and BADD" are hosting a release party for their latest album, "Funkify Ya-Self," Saturday, August 18, at 9 p.m. at Enoch's Irish Pub and Cafe. The 8-track CD features fresh funk tunes from the four-piece band.

American Routes Shortcuts: Cedric Burnside

Cedric Burnside heard hill country blues from his grandfather, R.L. Burnside, also known as Big Daddy. As a youth, Cedric toured with Big Daddy playing drums in his band and with elders Junior Kimbrough and Jessie Mae Hemphill. Once of age, Cedric formed the “Juke Joint Duo” with friend Lightnin’ Malcolm, and later the Cedric Burnside Project. His 2015 album Descendants of Hill Country was nominated for a Grammy. But it began for him living with his grandparents in Holly Springs, MS.


Cadets Stop At Malone Stadium

The 10-time Drum Corps International World Champion Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps will be on the University of Louisiana Monroe campus on Tuesday, July 24 for a day of rehearsals followed by a performance.

The Corps will present their 2018 show in Malone Stadium at approximately 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend the rehearsals and performance.

According to Corps Director Dr. Drew Shanefield, the 2018 program was inspired by the famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi, "Unity, to be real, must stand the severest strain without breaking."

New Music on the Bayou Festival is May 31 - June 2 in Ruston and Monroe. The concert series features both local and international composers.

The 2018 ULM Composer in Residence is Dr. Baljinder Sekhon. His music is being performed Tuesday, February 27 at 7:30 in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall.
