Louisiana Housing Corporation's Board of Directors approved $245 million to develop 769 affordable rental units across five Louisiana parishes.

This multi-million dollar investment represents a combination of LHC's Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) and Multi-family Revenue Bonds (MRBs) and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds administered by the State of  Louisiana, Office of Community Development.

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed into law on March 27, by President Donald Trump.  The CARES Act Community Development Fund is based on the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) formula for Entitlement Cities.  The City of Monroe has been awarded $436,363 in CDBG funds to help address local needs.  The City of Monroe COVID-19 Small Business Enterprise Loan/Grant, Rental Assistance, and Mortgage Payment Assistance Programs.

Business and industry are bringing a large number of new residents to Ouachita Parish.  Housing is a critical issue, and one the Ouachita Business Alliance is working to grow and enhance.

Joe Holyfield serves as Housing leadership chair for the OBA.  Builders and developers have come together to plan for new needs and opportunities for people moving to the area.  "What we see is workers moving here from Europe, from the northwest, like Seattle, like Denver," says Holyfield.  "There is a different housing piece that those areas provide."
