The City of Monroe, the University of Louisiana Monroe, and Grambling State University have been awarded a grants which will further the university’s dedication to being a good steward of the environment.

ULM received a $179,830 grant on Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, from Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell.

The grant will fund installation of high-efficiency LED lights in some ULM buildings.

“These improvements will lower electric bills by thousands of dollars,” Campbell said.

A shooting incident occurred last night around 9:45 on Grambling State Universty Campus near the basketball courts. A suspect has been arrested. One person was shot in the buttocks and is in stable condition.

This incident is being investigated by the Lincoln Parish police and Grambling police department. Grambling officials say that neither the victim nor the suspect were students of the university.

Award winning artist and actress Beyonce Knowles will be giving Grambling State University grant money as part of her Homecoming Scholars Award Program. GSU was one of three Historically Black Universities chosen in the state.

Recent University of Louisiana Monroe Graduate Tayler Davis has been selected the winner of the Thomson Reuters / White House Correspondents' Association reporting scholarship. Davis was a student journalist and did her undergraduate work at ULM. She volunteers her time at 90.3 KEDM Public Radio and works in the News Department.

KEDM has been named as a finalist for multiple awards in the 2017 Louisiana-Mississippi Associated Press Broadcasters and Media Editors Contest.

KEDM News and Public Affairs Director Cory Crowe was named a finalist in five award categories including Best Newscast.

The suspect in the high profile Grambling State University double murder has hired a defense team to argue his innocence. Attorneys Ronald Haley and Dedrick Moore would not reveal 19-year-old Jaylin Wayne’s side of the story, but said the focus should switch to the environment at Grambling.

An investigative audit accuses three former cashiers at Grambling State University improperly added over 164-thousand-dollars to G-Flex accounts that were used by 35 students and two of the former cashiers. State Auditor, Roger Harris says the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s office was notified by the school in February once they discovered a problem.

There were no gunshots overnight at Grambling State University. Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Office got calls of shots being fired Sunday night at 11:22 pm. Louisiana State Police, Grambling City Police, Lincoln Parish Sheriff's Department and GSU Police responded.

After an investigation, GSU police say they found no evidence of a shooting incident that was called in near GSU's Douglas hall.  There ware reports on social media that a shooting occurred and no one was injured.

Two people were killed last week after a fight in one of Gramblings dormitory rooms.  

Fatal Shooting at Grambling State University

Two 23-year-olds, Earl Andrews and Monquiarius Caldwell, were shot at Grambling State University around midnight.  Andrews was a senior at Grambling while Caldwell was not a student. Both men are from Farmerville.

The altercation started inside a dorm and continued into the courtyard. 

The identity of the suspect is not known at this time as well as the reason for the altercation. Police have advised the general public to be cautious as they continue with the home coming activities as planned.
