The ULM Art Department and Kappa Pi are hosting the annual ULM Holiday Art Sale this week, December 2-6, from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Bry Hall on campus. The sale includes a wide variety of hand-crafted art pieces made by the university's students, faculty, and alumni. The selection ranges from Christmas ornaments and stickers to ceramics and paintings.

The Monroe Turkey Trot is an annual race that takes place early Thanksgiving morning to raise money for local charity organizations. Since 2013, the race has grown in size and has become the second largest in the area. This year, all proceeds from the event will be donated to the Northeast Louisiana Food Bank.

Local non-profit organization, The WillPower Foundation, is hosting the fundraiser, Denim and Diamonds, on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. There will be live music, silent and live auctions, lots of games, and raffle tickets. All proceeds from the event will be donated to St. Jude's Children Hospital and cancer research.

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Ouachita is hosting their 64th annual Pancake Day at First United Methodist Monroe (FUMC) on Tuesday, November 5. Pancakes will be served all day from 6:30 a.m. - 7 p.m., and all proceeds will be used to support the children in our area. FUMC is located on 3900 Loop Road in Monroe.

The West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Wild Wild West Street Dance this Saturday, November 2, from 7 - 10 p.m. The event is at downtown West Monroe's Alley Park located on Trenton and Natchitoches Street. Tickets are $30 per person or $300 for a whole table.

The Monroe Symphony League (MSL) is hosting its annual book room fundraiser this Saturday, Oct. 5, and Sunday, Oct. 6; then again Friday, Oct. 11, and Saturday, Oct. 12, at the old city bakery on 320 North Fourth Street in Monroe.

The entrance fee is $2 per adult on the first day only. The remaining dates are free to the public.

The Monroe Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is hosting their fundraiser, Feet 'n the Street, on Saturday, September 21st at West Monroe's newest venue, Alley Park on Natchitoches Street in Antique Alley. The fundraiser will be from 3:30-6:30 p.m. and feature local bands, food trucks, wine, beer, and soda to raise money for MSO's public events throughout the year.

Empty Bowls Feed Hungry Souls

The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana is hosting their 3nd annual Empty Bowls fundraiser Saturday, January 26. The event runs from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Hub, 201 Washington Street in Monroe. Many local restaurants will be serving their signature dishes, accompanied by music, activities for people of all ages, and a silent auction. An all inclusive ticket is $40, that features a hand-crafted bowl that was made by a local artist. A $20 ticket is for those who would only like to enjoy the activities.

Quota International is hosting a Chicken and Waffles fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 27 from 8-10 a.m. at Slim Chickens on Cypress St. in West Monroe.

"Quota Club International was originally started by the wives of Kiwanis members who wanted to better for their community," according to Jennifer Bass of Quota Club West Monroe. "They saw their husbands doing things to make their communities better places to live, and they wanted to participate." Quota Club International was formed in 1919. "Back then, there wasn't a place for women in clubs like Kiwanis."
