Director Tanya N. Garfield of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Disaster Field Operations Center-West today reminded Louisiana private nonprofit organizations of the Aug. 23, 2021, deadline to apply for an SBA federal disaster loan for property damage caused by severe winter storms that occurred Feb. 11-19, 2021. Private nonprofits that provide essential services of a governmental nature are eligible for assistance.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Director Tanya N. Garfield of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Disaster Field Operations Center-West today reminded small nonfarm businesses in 21 parishes of the Aug. 2, 2021, deadline to apply for an SBA federal disaster loan for economic injury. These low-interest loans are to offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by Hurricane Laura and winds in the following primary parishes that occurred Aug. 26-28, 2020.

FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of Louisiana to supplement state, tribal and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by the severe winter storms from Feb.11-19, 2021.

The President's action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in Avoyelles, Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, Catahoula, Claiborne, Concordia, DeSoto, East Baton Rouge, Franklin, Grant, LaSalle, Madison, Natchitoches, Ouachita, Rapides, Red River, Richland, Sabine, Webster, West Carroll and Winn parishes.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect through Noon Thursday. Expect mixed precipitation for the entire event but the higher snow totals should be north of the I-20 Corridor with the higher freezing rain totals likely near and south of the I-20 Corridor.

The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana been chosen as one of the Top 200 nationwide finalists for the State Farm Neighborhood Assist grant program. If the Food Bank makes the Top 40 most voted causes, it will use the $25,000 grant to expand Senior programs to provide over 200 more low income senior citizens with a monthly box of food. The Food Bank needs the support of the entire community to get the votes it will take to win!

Area children and their families will benefit from a new facility that will house an established community service: The Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana. The Coalition kicked off the “Commit to the Brick” capital campaign, a fundraising initiative that will support the new building located at 117 Hall Street in downtown Monroe.
