The sun was on a 120 degree seek and destroy mission as the LSU Tigers were wrapping up their Saturday August scrimmage. My youngest son was playing fullback for the Tigers his senior year, and Melinda and I were sweating it out in the stands.

Most of the team had left the field. We were talking with John David in what shade we could find. That’s when I looked up and saw Coach O coming our way.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU senior Bryce Jordan will skip his final season of eligibility because of issues from a 2017 knee injury that caused him to redshirt his junior year.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports Jordan finishes his collegiate baseball career hitting .269 with 80 hits and 54 RBIs in 116 games. In 2016, Jordan was an All-SEC designated hitter, hitting .293 with 33 RBIs in addition to .333 in the SEC season.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU coach Ed Orgeron compared his team to an overconfident fighter who drops his hands and subsequently gets "hit in the face."

Rather can get knocked out, the sixth-ranked Tigers woke up.

Nick Brossette scored three touchdowns, Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushed for a career-high 136 yards and two TDs, and LSU beat Louisiana Tech 38-21 on Saturday night in a game infused with far more tension than expected.

"We won the game, but it wasn't good enough," Orgeron said. "Obviously, we're not happy."

Fox Sports commentator Tim Brando thinks this could be a pivitol year for the University of Louisiana Monroe football program. Brando knows the Warhawks and Monroe very well. He is one of the most famous voices to study broadcasting at ULM.

I had a chance to talk with Brando about the Warhawks upcoming season.

Multiple reports say star quarterback Drew Brees has agreed to a 50-million-dollar two-year-deal with the saints. A reported 27-million-dollars is guaranteed. Saints radio color analyst Deuce McAllister says it’s actually a one year deal as there’s a team option after the first year.

The New Orleans coaching staff and management are starting to feel the crunch of time. Brees is entering his 18th season. McAllister says even though it’s a good deal for the team and Brees both, the Saints need to start thinking about life after Brees decides to hang it up.

The LHSAA Annual Convention convenes today and on Friday, high school principals will vote on a number of proposals. A vote will NOT be taken on whether to end the split playoff in football. But North Vermilion Principal Tommy Byler has a proposal to even up the number of schools that play each classification in an effort to prevent one or two win teams from making the playoffs on the non-select side.

The Richwood Rams in Monroe in Ouachita Parish will play in the 3A State Championship against West Feliciana at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans Friday.  There are many fans that want to go watch, but can’t afford to make the long trip.  Tyron Dickens is trying to help raise money through his non-profit program K-9 Outreach.  Dickens says donations have started coming in.

LSU’s new punter is not the average student-athlete. Zach Von Rosenberg is 27-years-old. He joined the football team as a walk-on in 2016 after spending six years in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system. Von Rosenberg was a standout pitcher at Zachary High, but never made it to the majors. Now he’s trying to help LSU football win and be a good teammate

Von Rosenberg replaced Josh Growden this past week as the Australian struggled. Von Rosenberg punted twice for a solid 45-yard average. He admits he was nervous for his first punt in the home opener
