A former Lake Charles Police Department officer was sentenced today in federal court for using unreasonable excessive force during an arrest.

Robert Hammac, 44, of Lucedale, Mississippi, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge James D. Cain Jr. to 18 months in federal prison followed by one year of supervised release. Hammac pleaded guilty on August 15, 2019 to one count of deprivation of rights under color of law.

Two Louisiana women have been sentenced to prison for violently abusing an autistic relative, keeping her in a backyard cage and forcing her to do chores in exchange for food and water.

A statement from FBI Special Agent Bryan Vorndran in New Orleans Thursday says Raylaine Knope was sentenced to 28 years, and her daughter, Bridget Lambert, was sentenced to four years. Both pleaded guilty to forced labor charges.

A Louisiana teacher and football coach has been jailed on a child pornography charge.

An arrest warrant states 33-year-old James Allen Opie of Shreveport was arrested Wednesday. The warrant says police assisted the FBI in a search of his home.

A Lafayette man was sentenced to 30 months in prison for making threats through interstate communications to the Lafayette office of U.S. Representative Clay Higgins.

Louisiana is once again top for murders in the country.  The FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program says the states murder rate was 11.8 per 100,000 persons, with 554 homicides in 2016.  New Orleans based Crime analyst Jeff Asher says this trend has gone on for some time.

Asher says even if you didn’t count New Orleans, Louisiana would remain tops in the country.


Investigators with the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit, along with the Monroe Police Department, the FBI New Orleans Division Violent Crimes Against Children Task Force and Safe Streets Task Force, the FBI Jackson, Mississippi Division Violent Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, and the Ouachita Parish District Attorney’s Office announce the arrest of 35 year old Willie C. Blackmon Jr. and 33 year old Lindsey L. Hutto.

On Monday General Michael Flynn resigned from his post as National Security Advisor after questions about his involvement with Russia.

Congressman Ralph Abraham thinks there are forces within the government leaking classified information to the media.  

"The leakers are the problem not General Flynn," said Abraham. 

He said over 60,000 people have access to our national secrets but less than a dozen are revealing our secrets.

"Finding these people will be like looking for a needle in a haystack, but we have to look."


On September 22, 2016, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit, working in conjunction with the FBI, executed a search warrant at a West Monroe residence as part of joint child pornography investigation. 

Child pornography videos were found on a cellular phone owned by John David Owen, age 29, of West Monroe. 

Owen was arrested and is currently being held at OCC on 5 counts of Pornography Involving Juveniles. 

The investigation is continuing.
