A Calhoun man has been arrested after allegedly holding a woman captive and assaulting her for several days. 

22-year-old Michael Vincent Vaughn was allegedly dragging a woman by the hair on Pink Street in Bawcomville according to arrest reports. 

Authorities say they found the woman with bruises and a broken tooth. 

She told deputies that Vaughn said that he would kill her and beat her with a baseball bat.

The Family Justice Center is hosting Hope in the Light of Day to honor survivors and victims of domestic violence. The event will take place on Thursday, October 3rd from 10-11 a.m. at the Ouachita Grand Plaza. The plaza is located on 501 S Grand St. in Monroe, La under the I-20 bridge.

The Family Justice Center is an organization dedicated to serving those affected by domestic violence in our area. The center provides services like counseling or working with the police force for all Ouachita parish residents; men, women, and children included. 

The sheriff's office of Assumption Parish, Louisiana, says a man shot his nephew in the head before killing himself.

News outlets report the sheriff's office says 49-year-old Scott Cazenave got into an altercation with 29-year-old Beau Blanchard as his younger nephew was mowing his grandmother's lawn Tuesday. What provoked their fight isn't clear.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Suspended LSU wide receiver Drake Davis has been arrested for a second time on charges of beating his girlfriend.

Drake was arrested Sunday in East Baton Rouge Parrish on charges of battery and violation of protective orders.

An arrest warrant said there was evidence of two additional batteries since Davis was arrested on Aug. 17 and ordered to have no contact with the woman. /

A domestic violence firearms bill cleared a House panel that further restricts possession of a gun by someone who is under a protective order. Currently its prohibited for an abuser to have a weapon, this bill prohibits among other things carrying a concealed weapon. Mariah Wineski is the executive director of the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

Thursday, October 5th, the Family Justice Center is kicking off domestic violence awareness month with its annual event Hope in the Light of Day. This rally against domestic violence will take place at the Monroe River Market at 10:00 a.m.

Hope in the Light of Day will focus on talking about the dynamics of domestic violence with this year's theme: Seeing Beyond the Obvious. This focus point was inspired by the idea of getting to see the real people affected by the violence. The event will include speeches by a local representative, a minister, and a domestic violence survivor.

A lawmaker fears Louisiana's domestic violence protections could be declared unconstitutional if his colleagues refuse to widen the safeguards to include same-sex couples.
