SHREVEPORT, La. - Acting United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook announced today that Dr. Llewelyn Simon, an internal medicine physician from Monroe, Louisiana, has agreed to pay the United States $640,000 to resolve allegations that he accepted payments for referrals of home health patients. Dr. Simon served as a medical director for the now defunct United Home Care home health agency and in that capacity, received monthly payments.

Free Cancer Screenings February 18 & 19

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, in partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation and Louisiana Cancer Foundation, is providing free, convenient access to breast and colorectal cancer screenings during the month of February. Discovering cancers in their earliest stage through screenings can help lead to better outcomes, making it extremely important for the community to get screened for appropriate cancers.

 

VCOM

The University of Louisiana at Monroe will host a groundbreaking ceremony today for the anticipated Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM), to be located on the ULM campus. The site is located in Heritage Park between the Laird Weems Center and the president’s home, Bon Aire.

Special guest Gov. John Bel Edwards will participate in the groundbreaking with ULM and VCOM representatives, elected officials and area leaders. Afterward, a reception will be held at Bayou Pointe Student Event Center.

 The public is invited to the groundbreaking and the reception.
