Authorities in north Louisiana say a Mississippi teenager died when the off-highway utility vehicle he was driving overturned on private property.

The Madison Parish Sheriff's Office says friends found the 15-year-old from Vicksburg about 5:20 a.m. Saturday at the property off Old Highway 65 in Tallulah.

Sheriff's Lt. Jeremy Purvis says the teen was not wearing a helmet or a seat belt when the UTV overturned.

His name was not released because the accident was still being investigated.

Donald "Doc" Hines, a physician who led the Louisiana Senate as president from 2004 to 2008, died Tuesday after a long illness. He was 85.

Hines' death was confirmed Wednesday by the state Senate and Gov. John Bel Edwards' office. Details were not released.

A Democrat from Bunkie, Hines served in the Senate from 1993 through 2008. He was inducted into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame in Winnfield in 2006. There, he was described as "a country doctor of the old school" who championed the needs of the working class and the poor.

 A Louisiana high school sophomore has died after a football practice held late to avoid summer heat.

Amite Police Chief Jerry Trabonna tells news outlets that 15-year-old Terrance Allen was laughing and joking with teammates when he collapsed in the locker room about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

He says officers and firefighters began CPR as soon as they arrived at Amite High Magnet School, but Allen died at a hospital about 9:40 p.m.

Man dies in house fire in Louisiana

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A man has been found dead in his burning home in Louisiana. St. George Fire Department spokesman Eldon Ledoux told news outlets the fire was reported around 4:30 a.m. Monday at a home in Baton Rouge. Ledoux said flames were through the roof and about half of the home was burning when firefighters arrived. The man lived alone in the house. His name has not been released yet. An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death. The cause of the fire has not been determined. East Baton Rouge sheriff's deputies are investigating.

Authorities say two toddlers survived alone for about two days after they were passengers in a wreck that killed their mother in south Arkansas. The Ouachita County Sheriff's Office says a 3-year-old boy was found Monday wandering in Camden, about 85 miles southwest of Little Rock.

Police then discovered a car in a ravine not visible from the road. The toddler's mother was found dead, and his 1-year-old brother awake and alert in his car seat. That child is being treated for dehydration.

A body was discovered Saturday morning behind a flood protection seawall near I-20. The remains were found near a set of stairs over the seawall at the site of the former Howard-Griffin building in Monroe. The 40 to 50 year old white male was found hanging from a rope.

Winn Parish – Yesterday evening, a crash involving two vehicles killed a man and a woman from Monroe, LA. Both were wearing a seat belt.

On August 2, 2018 at approximately 7:20 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a fatal crash involving a bicyclist on LA 548 in Jackson Parish.

The preliminary investigation revealed 53-year-old Clint Caraway of Eros was riding a Trek bicycle westbound on LA 548 in the lane of travel. At the same time, 64-year-old Shelby Berry of Eros was driving a 2005 GMC Yukon westbound on LA 548 behind Caraway. Berry’s Yukon struck the year of the bicycle in the lane of travel. After impact, Caraway was thrown from the bicycle into a ditch.

Monroe Police Officer Ayrian Williams died Monday night while trying to assist her fellow officers in south Monroe. The accident happened around 6:45 p.m. when her police car attempted to avoid a road hazard on S. 8th Street in Monroe.  Her vehicle left the roadway and impacted a large tree. Emergency medical personnel took the officer to St. Francis Hospital where she died due to her injuries.
