Garfield of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Disaster Field Operations Center-West today reminded Louisiana private nonprofit organizations of the Aug. 23, 2021, deadline to apply for an SBA federal disaster loan for property damage caused by severe winter storms that occurred Feb. 11-19, 2021. Private nonprofits that provide essential services of a governmental nature are eligible for assistance.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Director Tanya N. Garfield of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Disaster Field Operations Center-West today reminded small nonfarm businesses in 21 parishes of the Aug. 2, 2021, deadline to apply for an SBA federal disaster loan for economic injury. These low-interest loans are to offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by Hurricane Laura and winds in the following primary parishes that occurred Aug. 26-28, 2020.

SHREVEPORT, La. - Acting United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook announced that Kirbyjon H. Caldwell, 67, was sentenced today by United States District Judge S. Maurice Hicks, Jr. to 72 months (6 years) in prison followed by 1 year of supervised release for conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Caldwell was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $3,588,500, as well as a fine of $125,000.

The Schepis Museum in Columbia, La is currently showing Meraki: Soul- Creativity- Love. This collection of work by a variety of artist crosses themes, styles and inspiration.

 

 

The art showcase features works by Mike Work, Diana Hutchinson, Wendy Boyette, Heather Boston, Lois Hebert, Karen Kinslow, and Garrett Prunty.

 

 

The works are on display through November.  There will also be an all day celebration reception October 17.

A Lake Wind Advisory has been issued across a four-state area. A tight pressure gradient between surface low pressure to the North and surface high pressure to the Southeast will produce strong and gusty Southwest winds of 15-25 MPH gusts to 25-30 MPH today.
