Disaster often strikes when we aren't ready. Sometimes the damage is more than we can handle. The United Way offers the 2-1-1 service to help.  Janet Durden is the Executive Director of the United Way of Northeast Louisiana. She says the United Way offers the 2-1-1 service for non-emergencies. The 2-1-1 operators match the callers needs with available local services.

KEDM will discuss disasters and what to do before and after a catastrophe at Policy and a Pint: Preparing for Disaster. Our panel of experts will answer you questions and provide tips for preparing and recovering from disaster.  The event will be held at Miro's On The River, at 201 Walnut Street in Monroe.

The event will begin with a "meet and greet" at 5:30 p.m. and the "LIVE" radio event begins at 6 p.m.

Panelists include: Neal Brown - Governor's Office of Homeland Security, Jannet Durden - United Way of Northeast Louisiana, and Ron Bush - State Farm Insurance. The event will be moderated by KEDM News Director Cory Crowe.

Originally from Monroe, Cory has worked in a variety of media. He has worked in television news and spent seven years as a TV sports play-by-play announcer. He was also creative director for a television advertising department and worked extensively as a photojournalist. Cory has lived in both Dallas and New Orleans.
