ULM School of Pharmacy Promotes Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Thousands of communities participate in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe's School of Pharmacy is partnering with the Children's Coalition to help promote the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday.

Super One in West Monroe and Bastrop, Brookshire's in Farmerville, and the Troop F Office in Monroe will all be collecting unused and expired prescription medicine on October 29th from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M.

The aim of the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is to get harmful substances out of the hands of children and adults that could abuse them. Lauren Dieck of the ULM School of Pharmacy shares that, "6.5 million Americans over the age within thirty days will abuse prescription drugs." That's about six percent of the population. The majority of prescription drug abusers report that they obtain their drugs from friends and family.

More information on the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day can be found here.
