Having the talk gives teenagers the information they need in this new period of their lives.

Is it time to have "the talk" with your teenager? The Children's Coalition is here to help with their free informational event "Time to Geaux Talk" Wednesday, January 24 at 5 p.m.

While sexual health can be a difficult or awkward topic, it needs to be discussed. Over half of parents believe their child will receive sexual health education at their school. Unfortunately, this is not true. Luckily, the Children's Coalition of Northeast Louisiana is offering information to make this conversation easier for parents and children.

"What we want to do is provide medically accurate information to parents and professionals so that when it's time to have the talk, they have the correct information," says Jan Daniels, the Youth Development Coordinator with the Children's Coalition. Daniels and Dr. Lynn Clark will give advice on how to start a dialogue between parent and child about sexual health. The event will also give information about STDs, STIs, and how they can be prevented or treated.

"Time to Geaux Talk" is an informational event hosted by the Children's Coalition of Northeast Louisiana Wednesday, January 24 at 5 p.m. The event will be at their new location, 117 Hall Street, in downtown Monroe. For more information, visit the Children's Coalition website, call them at 318-323-8775, or visit the Geaux Talk website.
