The Schepis Museum of Columbia presents Water/Ways: a Smithsonian Exhibit. This exhibit closes on November 10 and is free to the public. Schepis Museum hours are 10 am-5 pm, Monday-Saturday, and 1-5 pm Sunday. The exhibit is sponsored by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, along with the Walton Family Foundation. 

Originally a bustling steamboat settlement, Columbia is a perfect venue for this Museum on Main Street exhibition, “Water/Ways,” produced by the Smithsonian Institution. The Schepis Museum nestles alongside the Ouachita River in downtown Columbia on Main Street, just a few blocks from U.S. Highway 165. The Smithsonian's "Water/Ways" exhibit dives into water and its place socially, culturally and historically. The exhibit also examines the practical role that water plays in society, especially in the United States. Access to water and control of water resources have long been a central part of political and economic planning. 

* October 25, 5:30 pm @ the Caldwell Parish Library: The Levee Board’s John Stringer will show the film “Diversions,” commissioned by the Walton family, about the effects water has on property, crops, etc.

* November 1, 5:30 pm @ the Schepis Museum: Dr. Bob Eisenstadt of ULM’s Office of Economic Research will present a program on his economic impact study of the Ouachita River from Arkansas through Louisiana. Greg Richardson of the Caldwell Parish Port Commission will add information on the impact the Port has on Caldwell Parish.

* November 8, 5:30 pm @ the Schepis Museum: David May from the Corps of Engineers will present a program on water safety and recreation.
