"Producers" Provides Musical Hijinks at Strauss

Strauss Theater Center

In a tale of desperate Hollywood swindling gone array, "The Producers" premiers at the Strauss Theater Center Friday, April 15. The production, based on the Mel Brooks movie, is about an accountant and a producer who figure out that a show could make more money if it fails than if it succeeds. The two then set off to create the worst show ever made.

"The cast and crew have worked extremely hard over the last few months to make this production a success, and  I think our community is just going to be blown away by what we've got going," says cast member Tony Sanson. The cast consists only a handful of lead roles. The majority of the roles are filled by the members of the chorus , who all play multiple roles.

"It's really fun, because everybody is constantly running off stage and throwing on a new costume and coming back out. We've got dancing nuns, and sailors, and showgirls bag ladies, and everything. Everyone is doing everything," says chorus member Moira O'Connor.

The Show begins at 7 p.m. on April 15 and 16, and 2 p.m. on the 17. The run of the play continues the following weekend with show on the 21 and 22 at 7 p.m. and on the 23 at 2 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the Straus Theater's website or call the box office at 323-6681.
