Prison Bus From East Carroll Parish Crashes Near New Orleans

A bus transporting prisoners housed in River Bend Correctional Center was involved in an accident near Manchac, Louisiana. The accident occurred on Interstate 55 as the Orleans Parish inmates were being transported from Lake Providence to New Orleans. The crash closed I-55 and inmates were treated at the accident site. 

East Carroll Parish Sheriff Wydette Williams said East Carroll's correctional center houses a small number of Orleans Parish prisoners. Sheriff Williams said that the 16 inmates and 2 officers were unhurt in the incident.

The River Bend Detention Center  is located in Lake Providence, Louisiana.

It currently houses offenders for the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections as well as pre-conviction offenders for local parish and municipal agencies and has a capacity of 1340 prisoners.
