The Monroe Symphony Orchestra is beginning its 49th season this Saturday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. with a full orchestra concert. The theme for the concert will be "Sound of New Worlds" which will highlight music associated with science fiction and fantasy.
The Monroe Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is comprised of local professional musicians that come together each year to continue the tradition of classical music in northeast Louisiana. This concert is geared towards getting more and more of the community involved with a fascinating theme: fantasy.
Craig West, executive director of MSO, is excited about this concert's theme. He says, "The Sound of New Worlds features planets and themes of imaginary moments and even times when dinosaurs roamed the Earth."
One of the composers that will be featured in the orchestra's theme is John Williams. The MSO will play a number of his most famous works from soundtracks like Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and E.T. Another composer chosen by the orchestra will be Gustav Holst, famous for his work based on the planets. The concert includes a performance of one of Holst's most famous pieces, Mars.
The performance is at Church of the Redeemer, at 715 Cypress Street in West Monroe. Tickets are $5 for students and $30 for adults. To get tickets or learn more about MSO, click here.
