The Monroe Symphony Orchestra (MSO) presents "Experience the Sound of the Holidays" on Friday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m. in North Monroe Baptist Church. The concert showcases seasonal favorites like "Sleigh Ride" and famous Christmas hymns.
MSO is comprised of local musicians from the Monroe area that volunteer to play throughout the year. For this concert, they have also invited the local Youth Orchestra to join them. MSO Director Craig West says, "This will be great because they [the youth] will get to play side by side on the stand with the adult players. They are going to learn a little bit from just being right next to them, and hopefully, it encourages them to volunteer for MSO in a few years."
Before the concert begins, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be in the lobby from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. for pictures, and parents should bring their own cameras. At intermission, Bayou Brewhouse will be serving free cookies and warm cider. Then after the concert, the winner of MSO's "Tacky Christmas Sweater" contest that night will be awarded a prize-filled gift basket.
For the music selection, the group will play a variety of Christmas music ranging from the classial "Greensleeves" to pop-tunes like "Let It Snow." To end the concert, The Monroe Symphony Chorus will join MSO on-stage and sing the "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's Messiah.
Tickets are $30 per person and $15 for students with a valid I.D. For more information or to buy tickets, click here.
