The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana has partnered with the City of West Monroe and the City of Monroe to distibute food boxes in northeast Louisiana.
West Monroe: Wednesday April 29
Wednesday, April 29, food boxes will be available from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. or when supplies run out at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center at 501 Mane Street in West Monroe.
The food box distribution is open to all residents who live in the City of West Monroe or in West Ouachita Parish who have had loss of income due to COVID-19 or are in need of food.
Food boxes will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
Each box will contain 25 pounds of non-perishable food items. The distribution will be a “drive thru” service, with members of the Louisiana National Guard loading food boxes into the vehicles. Recipients will not have to get out of their vehicles, and are asked to clear space in their trunk for the food box prior to the distribution.
Monroe: Friday, May 1
The Monroe “drive-thru” distribution will take place Friday, May 1, beginning at 10 am until supplies are gone at the Monroe Civic Center, 401 Lea Joyner Expressway.
Monroe Police will guide traffic while volunteers from the Louisiana National Guard and other city personnel help distribute supplies.
Mayor Jamie Mayo says, “I want to encourage those who can to support the Food Bank of northeast Louisiana. In addition to their regular efforts, Executive Director Jean Toth and her team at the Food Bank are doing an outstanding job keeping food on the table of families who have been affected by the Coronavirus and tornado.”
1,000 food boxes will be distributed. Water will also be given to families, sponsored by Pepsi Beverage North America and Sam’s Club in Monroe. Each box will contain 25-pounds of non-perishable food items. Participants are asked to clear space in their trunks or seats prior to arrival at the distribution site.
