Mardi Gras Madness Hits The Twin Cities

The Twin Cities will be hopping this weekend with Mardi Gras related activities.  90.3 KEDM Public radio will be broadcasting live from downtown West Monroe and playing Mardi Gras music for all parade revelers. 

The Krewe of PAWS Pet Parade rolls at 1:30 p.m. this Saturday.

The festivities will begin Saturday morning in West Monroe with the 13th annual Krewe of PAWS Pet Parade.  Pets and owners will be "Under the Big Top" this year, dressing in a circus theme. Registration begins at 11 a.m. and judging of the costumes and floats is at noon.  The parade will line up at 1:00 p.m. and will roll at 1:30 p.m. The parade will travel throught Antique Alley on Trenton, Commerce and Pine streets.

At 3 p.m. runners and walkers from the area will take to the parade route for the Jester Jog.  The one mile race will begin in downtown West Monroe. There are awards for every age of runner. The race is open to participants age 12 and up.

Tens of thousands of revelers will party in the streets for the Krewe of Janus parade at 6 p.m. This years theme is "Under the Big Top" and will feature floats and riders in circus costumes.  The parade will take a new route this year. It will start on Trenton Street in West Monroe and end at Oliver Road in Monroe. The  Krewe of Janus King and Queen are Sammy Tolar and Blanche Betz.
