A northeast Louisiana child care center is closing after officials denied its appeal to keep its license.

The Louisiana Department of Education rejected the appeal from Assembly Kidz Care in West Monroe following an Oct. 25 hearing. The department revoked the child care center's license in September.

A former employee, 48-year-old Yolanda Rochelle Jackson, is charged with felony cruelty to juveniles. State officials say video showed Jackson dropping one child, aggressively grabbing another and dragging a third. She's also accused of hitting and shaking children.

News outlets report the center used its own money to operate after state and federal money was withdrawn.

State officials say a parent watching the video notified the center's director. Education officials say the center didn't alert officials or parents within the required 24 hours.
