A judge says a northwest Louisiana city has been overcharging residential water and sewer customers for years.
An attorney for Shreveport residents says in a news release that Caddo Parish Judge Michael Pitman ruled Monday without a full trial.
Attorney Anne Wilkes said in an interview that the Harper Law Firm estimates damages at $24 million to $25 million since 2007, but the judge will decide the amount later. She says about 60,000 customers are affected.
City spokesman Benjamin Riggs could not be immediately reached for comment.
Pitman had certified the lawsuit in September as a class action covering all of Shreveport's residential sewer and water customers.
Wilkes says notices will be going out to them all, either directly through the mail or with their water bills.
