The Kiwanis Club of Greater Ouachita is hosting their 64th annual Pancake Day at First United Methodist Monroe (FUMC) on Tuesday, November 5. Pancakes will be served all day from 6:30 a.m. - 7 p.m., and all proceeds will be used to support the children in our area. FUMC is located on 3900 Loop Road in Monroe.
The Kiwanis Club is an international service organization of volunteers that want to make a meaningful impact in their local communities. The "Greater Ouachita" chapter of the group was founded in 1921 and has been serving the Monroe-area since. They have delivered "Meals on Wheels" to the elderly, served dinner at MedCamps, assisted in the local Project Help program, and more.
Pancake Day has become one of the Kiwanis Club's most popular and successful fundraisers. They have raised thousands of dollars and serve around 1,750 people each year.
Johnathan Booth, a representative of the Kiwanis Club, says, "We have tried to figure out how many pancakes we cook, but we always lose count. But essentially, we have 5 one-gallon buckets of pancake mix that we will use for the entire day."
This year, it costs guests $7 to get pancakes, but if they decide to stay there, the pancakes will be "all-you-can-eat." That money along with monetary donations to the club will be used throughout Monroe and West Monroe to directly impact the lives of children, and do not leave the community.
Tickets can be bought in advance by messaging the Greater Ouachita Kiwanis Club on Facebook with the following information: name, number of tickets, and method of payment. Guests can also buy the pancakes when they get to the fundraiser.
