House Appoves GOP-Backed Business Incentives

On Tuesday, GOP state lawmakers reaffirmed their belief that the best way to get the state’s faltering economy back on track is through tax cuts. House Approves GOP-Backed Business Incentives

The Repubilcan-controlled House of Representatives approved a trio of business tax breaks.

Democrats accuse Republican state lawmakers of using the coronavirus as an excuse to add to an already lengthy list of business incentives.

The bills that passed would allow businesses to keep a larger portion of the state sales taxes they collect, expand the Quality Jobs payroll subsidy program and make more businesses eligible for Enterprise Zone tax credits.

The full House took up a fourth measure that would suspend the corporate franchise tax for certain businesses, but that failed.

Edwards opposes the GOP’s business-centered approach to coronavirus relief. On Monday he vetoed a payroll tax break passed last session.
