Governor John Bel Edwards urged voters to vote early and work hard to get people to the polls in a rally in Monroe just hours before President Donald Trump appears at an event at the Monroe Civic Center.
Edwards stopped at Charles Johnson Children's Park near Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo.
Speaking to a group of supportes numbering around 200, Democratic Gov. Edwards spoke about his Republican opponent Eddie Rispone. "Eddie knows he can't win on issues. That's why he's trying to make this election about Washington, D.C. I've always put Louisiana first."
Edwards criticized Rispone for working closely with Trump for the Monroe rally, "There's a reason my opponent is calling in the president; it's becuase my opponent doesn't have a plan for Louisiana."
In the days ahead, Edwards urged supports to do the hard work to get voters to the polls. The event comes during the early voting period in Louisiana, which runs until Nov. 9.
Following the event, supporters had time for photos with the governor before he left to speak to a local group of senior citizens.
