The Stooges Brass Band is performing on the Skent-N-Dent Stage.

The Downtown River Jam series is hosting a free Mardi Gras Block Party featuring live music, drink samples and food Saturday, February 3 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Mardi Gras Block Party is taking place at the corner of North 4th and Pine Street in Downtown Monroe. Jordan Sheppard kicks of live music on the Skent-N-Dent Stage, with the Stooges Brass Band headlining the evening festivities. There will be beer samples from Choice Brands, and Doe's Eat Place will have New Orleans style cuisine available for purchase.

The party starts at Flying Tiger Brewery with Dan Sumner's Mardi Gras Band, then moves to the Skent-N-Dent Stage for live music from Jordan Sheppard, a local Ouachita singer-songwriter. Sheppard and his band will be playing music from his upcoming album. Sheppard's "twangy, bluesy" music will open up for the party headliners. The Stooges Brass Band, based out of New Orleans, is performing their blend of traditional New Orleans brass, contemporary jazz, and hip-hop beats. The party will then move to Live Oaks Bar and Ballroom to finish off the night.

"We started the Downtown River Jam in 2010 to bring family-friendly entertainment and promote live music in the Downtown Monroe area," says Melissa Touchet of the Downtown Monroe Alliance. For more information about the Mardi Gras Block Party, visit the Downtown Monroe Alliance website.
