The Ouachita Parish Public Library begins its summer reading program with Summerfest.

As summer approaches, many people become more active, but the Ouachita Parish Public Library works to remind children and adults to exercise their minds as well.

The Library begins its summer reading program with Summerfest, Saturday May 21. The event is closely tied to the sports theme of this summer's program.

The event is geared to remind children and adults to exercise both their minds and bodies this summer, and features challenges such as a "book walk" at Kiroli Park.

"We have a big empty lot right next door to the main branch, and we are going to have that jam-packed with games, and events for the kids. We are going to have a spray-paint artist," says Head of IT Eileen Kontrovitz, "We'll also have some snacks out there and some stations for people to sign up for the summer reading program."

Summerfest begins Saturday, May 21 at the Main Branch of the Library on Stubbs Avenue. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m. All other branches will be closed that day in order to provide support for this enormous event.

For more information about Summerfest, the summer reading program, or to register for the program, visit the OPPL website.
