The Rennaissance Movement Committee of Monroe is holding its 39th Annual Black Heritage Parade on Saturday, February 29. The celebration will include over 125 entries ranging from historical-themed floats to higschool bands and dance teams.

Festivities begin that day at 7 a.m. with a lineup of all participants followed by the parade's kickoff at 9:30 a.m. The floats will be decorated with important African-American men and women that have paved the way for blacks today and left a lasting mark on society.

The parade's route starts at 6th and Washington, goes down Desiard St., and ends up at the Eastgate Shopping Center. There will be two Grand Marshalls, Rashard Lawrence and Cam Lewis, leading the procession. Both are LSU football players that played on this year's winning national championship team.

According to former president of the Renaissance Movement Committee, Larry Wilson, the highlight of the parade will be honoring youth through their theme: DREAM, IMAGINE, and INSPIRE. He says, "We are asking the kids to imagine and stay inspired so that they can become the person that they are dreaming to be in the future."
