The Biedenharn Museum and Garden's will be holding its 27th annual Garden Symposium and Plant Sale the weekend of April 21st and 22nd. Friday, the 21st, will hold the symposium followed by the plant sale on the 22nd.
This year's symposium will have three special guests. Jim Long will be talking about herbs and plants you can garden for beauty and taste in his speech, 'Eat Your Flowers'. The second speaker, Peggy Martin, will be sharing on the growth of herself and her garden after the 2005 hurricane in her talk, 'Katrina and Beyond'. Terry Fry will also be there doing a presentation on floral arrangements.
Guests to the symposium will get first pick on plants from the sale, but for those not going to the symposium the plant sale begins Saturday. Louisiana Tech's Greenhouse will be there along with the Monroe Garden Study League and local beekeeper, Amy Weeks, with some of her honey products.
Director of the Biedenharn, Ralph Calhoun, shares that the plants at the sale are designed for Louisiana's climate, "We are filling up the garden with what people want." Plants that are local to the area are more likely to thrive than some of the plants sold at big name stores.
