Despite the summer heat battering the area, The Downtown Arts Alliance continues its mission of promoting art in the community with the Downtown Gallery Crawl on Thursday, August 4 from 5 to 9 p.m.
This month's crawl features eight galleries, and spans across the river to include both downtown Monroe and West Monroe. In addition to countless works of art, patrons can also enjoy food, drink, music, and air conditioning provided by the galleries and local businesses.
In keeping with the spirit of downtown revitalization, The Garrett House re-opens its doors after a recent renovation, and displays the works of Nicole Duet to mark the occasion. Duet gives an Artist Talk at 6:30 p.m.
The Palace Gallery features the vibrant works north Louisiana native Emily Ezell, as she prepares to move to New York this fall to pursue her degree.
Art Alley lives up to its namesake with several new exhibitions. The Arender Gallery exhibits the colorful works of Baton Rouge artist Chad Schoonmaker.
The Sugar Gallery displays a collection of works entitled "The Lazy Days of Summer," and the Upstairs Gallery features the photography of the new up-and-coming artist Jana Giles. Across the hall, the Big Room Gallery features the works of potter Gary Ratcliff, who also will be doing live demonstrations during the crawl.
